Actor Paul Humpoletz has performed in all areas of the profession, including many years in regional repertory theatre, London theatres and the West End, as well as on tour and in Europe.
He has also appeared frequently on TV, in feature films, and on Radio. Most recently he played Churchill on BBC2 in ‘ WW2 – Behind closed doors’.
“As a performer I had long been searching for a subject for a one man show, and I commissioned Tracy Spottiswoode to write a script because I felt she had a distinctive, idiosyncratic, and a poetic voice and would produce a work of originality, and in The Edge of Tranquillity she has created characters whose lives paralleled many of my own experiences.
My Austrian father, who was a political refugee from the Nazis, met my mother, an Hungarian émigré, in London just before the War. They made a new life in this country, and I grew up in a German speaking household where there was a great love of music.”
“Handel, also an émigré, was a man of great passions and extremes, who experienced dramatic highs and lows, both artistically, financially, and personally – and this of course makes for good drama.
The fact that little is known about Handel’s private life gives the writer the freedom to explore and create an imaginative piece. I commissioned Tracy Spottiswoode to write it, because I felt she had a distinctive and poetic voice and would make full use of this opportunity. I was proved right.”
'This was my first step as a novice producer. I now needed a director and a designer. The former, Allan Zipson, is very experienced as both director and teacher, and I knew would be challenging , daring, and inventive. The latter, Jen Rowlands, has all these qualities, has great experience, and is also a fine artist.'
My new company ‘Theatre Tarquini’ now had a creative team that would support me in making my vision a reality.”
